For a large part of his youth, Singh exhibited apolitical traits, however, events would have it that Singh would be eventually swayed into national politics.
In his lifetime, Singh led two movements for democracy in Nepal – one against the autocratic Rana regime, and the second one against King Mahendra’s partyless Panchayat System. At both times, he resisted and led with great resilience. He had to live many of his years in exile, or in jail.
